Strike is an Overwatch-inspired original character and a long-term passion project that I lead as project manager and creative director. I collaborate with talented artists, animators, and other creatives from across the Overwatch community, guiding the work with close attention to detail and authenticity so each piece feels as close as possible to an official hero release. My design contributions focus solely on packaging and presenting the team’s work, including faithfully recreating Overwatch menus and UI in Figma and creating a teaser thumbnail.

THE SPARK
I created Strike because I had always wanted to see a lightning-powered hero in Overwatch, partly inspired by growing up watching The Flash. His original design imagined him as a vigilante and followed the visual style of Overwatch 1’s heroes. I presented the concept using layouts inspired by official Overwatch concept art.

Overwatch 2 gave its heroes updated looks that reflected how their stories had progressed. For Strike, I imagined he had joined Overwatch and received a more polished, high-tech design inspired by the new looks of heroes like Tracer and Mei. I presented the artwork in the style of official hero concept art, highlighting the updated design alongside concepts for the new cosmetic types introduced in the sequel.

Bringing strike to life
Jupiiit and PistonFX created these renders in Unreal Engine, with Teh_vfx handling VFX and Polybutts responsible for the character art. The goal was to make them feel like official press images, so no additional graphic treatment was needed.

ADDING STRIKE TO THE GAME
These concepts were built entirely in Figma, with no real gameplay capture used. Instead, they feature custom in-engine renders designed to look like authentic Overwatch screenshots, paired with a UI I recreated from the ground up to make Strike feel convincingly part of the game.

THE NEXT STEP
With work underway on Strike’s animated hero trailer, I designed a thumbnail to tease the upcoming animation and adapted it for a social post.
